Cedars-Sinai First To Purchase Gauss Surgical’s Triton System™ For Real-Time Assessment of Surgical Blood Loss

Cedars-Sinai Will Also Work With Gauss to Study the Technology’s Role in Clinical Decision Making and Patient Outcomes

Los Altos, Calif., Nov.11, 2014 – Gauss Surgical today announced that Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, the largest academic medical center in the western United States, is the first institution to purchase the Triton Fluid Management System™. Triton is the world’s first and only mobile platform for real-time assessment of blood loss on surgical sponges. In addition, Cedars-Sinai will partner with Gauss Surgical to further explore the role of the technology in improving patient outcomes and reducing unnecessary blood transfusions and their associated costs and complications.

Triton provides physicians a first of its kind device to accurately estimate blood loss during surgery. At its core Triton uses standard off the shelf mobile computing technology in combination with cloud storage. Using the iPad camera, the system scans surgical sponges that are covered in blood, and sends the images to the cloud where image-processing algorithms estimate the amount of blood contained on that surface and sends it back to the OR in real-time. Triton features an intuitive iPad interface, requires minimal training, and seamlessly integrates into existing surgical workflow. The system is fully HIPAA compliant.

The Triton Fluid Management system received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance via granting of a de novo petition in May of 2014 and is now commercially available.
