Director of Commercial Operations

General Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Vice President, Marketing, the Director of Commercial Operations is responsible for developing and implementing the strategy for the commercial operations function. S/he will execute in a fast-paced environment to establish and ensure continuous improvement of processes that support our customer-facing activities, enabling Gauss to deliver the highest quality customer experience. S/he will serve as a key member of the commercial leadership team and over time will have responsibility for building and leading a team.

Specific Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will:

  • Dive in to support ongoing commercial operations activities, using this initial experience to identify and prioritize gaps and develop a strategic plan for the function.
  • Collaborate with Finance and Commercial Leadership to identify key commercial performance indicators and implement field and customer reporting and analytics tools to empower field team performance and high customer satisfaction.
  • Take ownership and accountability for key commercial processes, including price quoting and customer contracting, forecasting and demand planning, customer implementation & training, customer support, CRM maintenance, field deployment strategy, and incentive compensation for commercial personnel.
  • Immediately manage 2-3 direct reports, and over time build a high performing team to support key commercial operations activities.
  • Establish strong, collaborative relationships with cross-functional leaders and commercial team members, including VP Sales, CFO, VP Engineering, Director of Customer Success, key marketing, sales and operations personnel.

Experience:
The successful candidate will:

  • At least 10+ years of relevant commercial in FDA-regulated medical technology, with at least 5 years in commercial operations, analytics or related functions. The ideal candidate would have experience working on key commercial processes outlined above in the “Responsibilities” section.
  • Passion for hiring, motivating, developing and holding accountable teams of talented employees.
  • Experience working with products & services sold to hospitals and health systems involving both hardware and software components, including hospital contracting.
  • Proven track record of creating standard operating procedures, driving continuous process improvement, and managing change as part of a commercial organization in a fast-paced, growing company.
  • Basic understanding of the compliance-related laws and regulations governing commercial activities for FDA-regulated products.
  • Working knowledge of business financial principles, P&L/income statement.
  • Experience managing complex projects involving both internal (company) and external (customer) stakeholders, and drive to completion on time and within budget.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in both larger company and entrepreneurial environments.
  • Experience in both larger company and startup/smaller entrepreneurial environment preferred.

Education:
A BS/BA degree is required; an advanced degree in business or management is desirable.
